This weekend saw the Anual DofE Wales Advemture Race arrive in Brecon. The event is run as a fundraiser for the DofE and companies enter teams to compete in this fun but grueling challenge.
On Friday I found myself with a backpack full of signs, cable ties and bamboo canes, biking along a tow path marking the first leg of the race.
Saturday morning we met the competitors and cheered them through the first leg of the challenge, a team canoe/run. It was manic but the teams found it fun.
Later that afternoon I found myself sitting on the top of the windy gap, surrounded by cloud and drizzle. Again I was cheering teams on, checking they were all ok and noting the time they passed me as they ran across the top of the Brecon Beacons. Despite the weather it was a fantastic day ended with a chilled out evening socialising with other instructors.
Sunday's job was to meet and great the teams as they turned up at the start of day 2. It was a good start to the day with all the groups in good spirits (even if they were a bit sore from the day before).
The afternoon was spent sitting in my car manning a change over between biking and running. Not spectacularly glamorous but it did get to drive my car up the forestry track to the top of the woods. Which was quite fun, if I'm honest.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend! Well done to all the groups (everyone finished)!
I can't wait for next year.
