Well I'm back Folks!
After a week south of the border I'm back in the Highlands of Scotland. Killin to be precise.
Today Sarah and I attempted to get up Beinn Ghlas. The weather was shocking! To drive up to the nature reserve we had to negotiate a snowy road. Boy was I glad the BBV is a 4 wheel drive! This is what the car park looked like on Tuesday.

The view in the nature reserve today looked somewhat different (see below). Anyhoo after the thrilling drive up to the car park we headed off through the nature reserve towards the mountain.
It was hard work. We were wading through knee deep powder snow. Grim, but we persevered. Eventually we left the nature reserve jumping over a gate. It was too hard going to follow the well made path, in summer it would be a motor way, in winter it was a snow trap filled deep.
Now we were cutting cross country we made better progress. Eventually we reached a fence line and followed it till it started heading up the slopes of Beinn Ghlas.
The higher we got the worse the weather got. It was definitely map and compass work.

We struggled on determined to give a good go at reaching the summit. However, unfortunately, we had to turn back about 500-600m from the summit. It just wasn't worth it. Visibility was poor and the winds were getting stronger.
We turned tail and fled from the weather.
Arriving back at the van we were glad to be out of the weather but in need of somewhere to warm up. This proved to be the fire at the Killin Hotel. The rest of the day (it was only lunch time when we got back to the van) was spent reading and warming up in front of the blaze!
